Community Service

Why I Do It

Community service is important because it fosters a sense of connection and empathy. It builds stronger communities, while also offering personal growth and fulfillment to those who serve.

Community Services

Camp Blessing Texas

Served the role as a "Buddy" that assisted my camper with getting dressed, eating, going to the restroom, etc. But most importantly spent the week as their camp best friend.

Christmas Drive

Donated new warm clothes, books, and toys for families in need.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

Came together with my soccer team to collectively provide 20+ Thanksgiving Meals for local families.

Family Meal Prep for Inner City Homeless

Spent the day packing meals for families at the Houston Food Bank . Supplied over 4,300 meals.

Elementary Volunteer Work

Entertained children with disabilities on weekends to give their parents time for errands. Made exercise enjoyable for students across all elementary grades.

The Impact

I volunteered at Camp Blessing Texas initially to add hours to my resume, but the experience became profoundly meaningful. Although I’m not very religious, the time I spent there opened my heart in ways I never expected. I was paired with Taylor Matus, a 36-year-old blind woman with cerebral palsy and bipolar disorder, and spent a week assisting her with daily needs.

During worship, as Taylor clung to my hand and asked why she wasn’t loved or beautiful, I was overwhelmed with emotion. I held her close, tears streaming down my face, and reassured her of her worth and beauty. Taylor’s struggles showed me that everyone deserves love and respect, no matter their circumstances. This experience taught me the true meaning of empathy and deepened my appreciation for the inherent worth in every person. It enriched my love for community service and helped me build genuine connections with others.
